It's over. This was suppose to be the movie to save the MCU and Disney blew it.

Saw it last night and my theater was packed and seemed to really enjoy it. Judging by the box office numbers this morning, this movie will be a major W for Marvel.

80% positive critic reviews
97% positive audience reviews (2nd highest ever for an MCU film)
On pace to make $180 million or more in its opening weekend

I think they'll be okay.

6th best opening day box office in movie history. That isn't a small accomplishment.

If it hits $210 million it will be 6th. I read elsewhere it was tracking for $205 million, making it 8th. Either way it's a staggering success, especially in the age of streaming.

Now that the numbers are coming in it's clear that the film is an unmitigated success.

It's projected to top $205 million, making it the 8th-highest opening of all-time. It will become only the 9th film to ever open with over $200 million. 6 of those 9 are MCU films. Two are recent Star Wars films, making Jurassic World the only non-Disney film to ever top $200 million in its first weekend.
