Wasn't sure where to post this but I was watching "Tales of Wells Fargo"

on Starz encore Westerns. The episode had ended and just as I was about to delete it from my DVR they're playing the credits, and I saw a familiar name. The episode "Hoss Tamer" aired 1/20/1958. The writer was listed as L. RON HUBBARD.

So I guess back in 1957 (if the show aired 1/20/1958 it probably was written in 1957) he was making money writing TV scripts. I wonder how if he was inventing his religion back then and was earning money that way while he was waiting for his religion to start making money.

By the way the story was pretty good

The most important thing is sincerity. If you can fake that you've got it made.

L. Ron Hubbard started as a SciFi author. He did so before, during and after he wrote the book Dianetics and started The Church of Scientology. He also made movies while he was the leader of Scientology, and required the members to purchase and watch them (the members are still required).

I was aware of that from watching Leah's show, I was surprised to see his name in the closing credits of a TV show. What made it even more surprising was that the show happened to be cowboy western.

The most important thing is sincerity. If you can fake that you've got it made.

Hubbard is most known for his science fiction writing. But he wrote pulp fiction in various genres as well.

I knew he wrote sci-fi and was possibly frustrated at not hitting it big like other writers.

He also famously told someone something along the lines of "if you want to get rich, start a religion." Guess he got tired of trying to do it the old-fashioned way.
