Why didn’t they just shoot her ?

Instead of the messy and extremely inhumane method of cutting the wife’s throat with a knife why didn’t they simply shoot her in her sleep? The husband clearly had a gun so why not use it? A bullet to the head would’ve been quick.

I was thinking he could have thrown her down the stairs head first when she was shitfaced and no one would have questioned it.
