Just been discussing this - what is the issue with "dwarf" anyway? Is it really a stigmatized offensive bad term?

I think for most people their original exposure to the word would have come from the original film - or the story.

I get that people may subsequently have taken the term and shouted it at short people in an derogatory manner or whatever and then maybe little people may not like it being used.

But in itself does the word "dwarf" really carry any offense? Because if not, trying to ban it's usage ultimately won't have any effect. No matter what you replace it with will simply become the new derogatory term.
