Unnecessary

Bill Pullman - masochistic tendencies with "gratuitous" thong shot

Murder victim - upclosr grabbing of gfs behind etc. I know they were trying to show what set Cora off but again just gratuitous

Bathroom and bedroom scene - crotch grab and thrusting. Yes I know they are married but this didn't add anything to the story. I think tv and movies these days think they need to have these scenes to keep the audience interested...

Oh please, who cares. You are a prude.

reply

Actually you don't know me....so whatever

reply

I do know that if you weren't a prude, you wouldn't even have noticed these things, or at the very least they certainly wouldn't have bothered you enough to open a topic about it.

People need to QUIT attacking people for their opinion. She has every right to post on this. I think some shows DO put in gratuitous sex just to keep our interest and it feels manipulative. I don't mind scenes that further the show, like showing the detective and his sexual needs, but I sometimes dislike graphic scenes. My choice.. I weigh the show on ALL it's merits. I am enjoying The Sinner. I don't like mean spirited, critical replies to honest posts. Disagreement is fine, but why go to name calling or excessive criticism?? This is supposed to be a discussion forum.

reply

That wasn't "name" calling, that was statement of fact.

reply

Sorry but I agree with exatera, she's allowed to state her opinion and people are allowed to disagree, he wasn't attacking her he felt it was a prudish thing to think which I 100% agree with. You're the one who's attacking which you should realize.

So stop watching.

reply

Wow....thanks! I never thought of that

If this bothers you then you'd better steer clear of all cable...even basic cable channels.
Since I primarily watch only cable shows I can tell you that this was very mild compared to others and I personally found the stabbing scene a lot more bothersome.

The worst thing about cable sex is that it might be teaching some adolescent boys to be bad lovers. Even in this show the poor guy almost gets choked to death when he wasn't being selfish (but I thought her reaction is pretty crucial to the story...so not gratuitous).

Definitely stay away from HBO, Cinemax, Showtime etc.. but even Netflix, FX, AMC etc are likely to bother you if this did.
Graphic violence is what bothers me but I accept it because the better written shows include it.

Yeah..you see the problem with this statement don't you? Gratuitous is lacking good reason...you yourself confirmed the reason as sound. You just didn't like the images that were necessary to convey
Said situation. That does not make the scene gratuitous, but does seem to back up the argument that you are indeed prude. Prudence is much like a poor sense of humor. No one wants to admit that they
Have a lousy sense of humor...no one wants to be seen as not funny as that translates to not fun in general. The same applies to comfort where sexuality is concerned...it is a kunundrum no? You desire a positive sexual identity but at the same time have sexual compass that just won't point south because a vast number of the population has convinced you that the true path is to the north. Don't know if there is a "cure" for this but if so I do know that a person with these personality traits would have to want to change them. As I doubt you would embrace this approach, you will need to get used to people viewing you as prude.

reply

This show is trying to be visceral with everything. Did you think the murder was too much? All the sex and everything shown does benifit the story they are trying tell. Prudish much?

reply

All of the scenes you listed are important to the overall story and the characters. Whatever you do, don't watch Game of Thrones!

reply

The only thing I agree with here is that they may not have needed the number of S&M scenes they had. One or two would have gotten the point across, but otherwise, the rest was just part of an adult program.
