Looks really terrible
Bad accents, homophobic humour, lazy writing. The CBC will put anything on TV. No wonder Harper wanted to slash their funding.

Nice anti-Christian jokes in their promos as well.
shareMan, how thin-skinned must you be to find that "anti-Christian"? And frankly, that joke you're referring to resonates with a LOT of young Koreans who are FED UP with being all but forced by their immigrant parents to marry fellow Korean Christians only, or who got suckered into that trap and are just making the best of it. Hell, most Christian Korean parents won't even let their kids date or marry CATHOLICS, so if you wanna talk "anti-" crap, there's a nice pile right there! Koreans of a certain generation are anti-EVERYTHING that isn't Korean or Christian (which is not even the culture's original belief system, by the way) and they pass that diseased thinking -- much like so many immigrants new to Canada -- onto their second-gen children purely to preserve and protect their culture (which will survive anyway) in a multi-cultural society that their kids are more fully integrated into than they are! What HORRIBLE expectations so many Korean-Canadian (and Korean-American) kids have thrust upon them, not to mention just about every OTHER newer-immigrant culture. "Marry your own kind, and your own religion, or else!" Honestly, ALL religions deserve to be made fun of, and if they're so good and strong and awesome (even though they're not) I'm sure most belief systems withstand this kind of ribbing. And trust me, the ONLY Koreans who are cool, Christian and Korean ARE girls, just like the show says.
sharehmmm. everything you said is true and you understand the Korean culture in immigrant North America, but the problem with this show is that it is too stereotypical of us. that said, for this to become mainstream like Fresh off the boat. it does have to widen its approach a bit.
Still then it abandons the Korean immigrant crowd like me, so it is a hard water to tread.
FotB is a US show and this is a CA show so while they're both Korean series, they're from different countries. Take it for what it is or don't.
Kim's Convenience is basically a new take on Corner Gas and I love it. Speaking of CG, it'd be cool to have cameos from CG in KM.
I kind of dislike Corner Gas, since it has some unlikable main characters that I found annoying.
But regarding Canadian shows, not all Canadian shows are bad, just look at Continuum, which was awesome.
I think the main problem with this show is the lack of budget, it needs more characters and better sets.
The Chinese wing-man episode was really forced and I thought it had nothing to do with anything, but a filler episode.
So you're upset because you're so politically correct? I saw the play and it was really good and the show looks along the same lines. Complaining about it makes you look as idiotic as those who used to attack the TV show "House". It makes you look overly politically correct.
shareI am watching my second episode and find it dull. Not enough interesting characters, and the store family has no charisma.Hokey, and gave it a 4 only.
shareArt is subjective. I find the show hilarious but still quite heartfelt. The store family has no charisma? Really? Then this show is definitely not for you. No probs.
shareI'll wager you loved "Little Mosque On The Prairie" too.
shareLittle Mosque was anodyne. Or at least the first few episodes. I didn't watch past them.
This show is happy to push the edges. Compared to the only other "korean" show on tv - Dr Ken - it's great. Kinda reminds me of Margaret Cho's original sitcom where her parents owned a video store (with a porn section). Assmaster!!!
For me it's a great mix of King of Kensington, Corner Gas and the anti-PC humor of House. Kinda of the perfect little mix of Canadian humor. I haven't fully laughed out loud like that in a while.
shareNa, I wasn't a Little Mosque fan. But what does that have to do with anything? They are very different shows. Unless you're white trash. It's Canada, not the US.
sharehomophobic humour
Oh come on.
1 totally chill guy (with the poster) nothing stereotypically gay
1 uptight guy (with the poster) nothing stereotypically gay
1 drag queen who was feminine presenting but not flaming, not "sassy" and got to talk about herself like a real person
1 stereotypically nasal guy, who liked what may be the most stereotypically straight movie (caddyshack) in modern cinema
1 twink-looking guy who was a regular person who got to talk about kinsey-scale stuff
Well, the first two were good dressers, like they might have been on the way to a club. But both were a lot more than just their clothes.
For a sitcom I think they went out of their way to avoid making the humor based on stereotypes.
It's a really good show, actually. I know that trailers tend to make comedy series look bad but this one is worth a chance, that is, if you liked Corner Gas.
shareWow. This is totally an ignorant comment on so many levels.
shareif you want politically correct television. go watch any American show. The show is here to stay and Harper is not, but Trudeau is not any better. so your wish might come true, but in the mean time. "OK,SEE YOU!"
