Much preferred the 2012 version with Hugh Jackman et al

I was disappointed in this, partly as it seemed very draggy. It would have benefited from considerable editing -- mainly shots being held too long because "pretty," redundant dragging through the sewer, etc. To me that's a sign of low budget -- dragging out scenes to get more time on screen without putting in more plot development, dialogue, or scene changes, costume changes, etc. Also, none of the characters had the acting chops of the 2012 version, they seemed lacking in intensity, range, interest.

I cannot disagree more. I was so bored by the 2012 version that I couldn't even finish it. I like the story but thought that was an awful telling of it.

However, I loved this mini-series. Except for perhaps a few relatively brief occasions, I was gripped from beginning to end. In fact, I enjoyed it enough that I bought it on Blu-Ray and also purchased a copy for my parents. I loved the characters and the way they were brought to life, the sets and settings, and the way that the story is explored and told over six hours.

If you really want a shorter version, and would like to watch one that's actually not a piece of shit, then go watch the 1998 version with Liam Neeson.
