What do you think of Mick Jagger's treatment of the theme song?

For the most part, I like it. I think his vocals suit the mood of the song (Strange Game?). However, I don't like when he gets all falsetto in the non-verbal parts. Wish they'd use a violin or some high string instrument or synthesizer to produce that sound. It sounds affected when Mick does it, but, again, I like his vocals throughout the rest of the song.

He does a nice job. Doesn't sound old, either.

I've never been a fan of the Stones really but I know their major works like most people, so on first hearing, I assumed it was a cool old track re-used. I thought the lyrics were amazingly apt for this series, uncannily so. So I googled it and discovered it was written specifically. Well of course.
Didn't know he was still working.

reply

No, say what you will about the Stones and whether or not you know or like their music, but Mick Jagger is very much still working. The Stones still write music and perform to sold-out venues. Their most recent album is Hackney Diamonds. I think it came out no later than last year! Pretty impressive when you consider they started in the mid-1960's. Jagger and Keith Richards have been in the Stones from the start.

I know. I'm from their town. Richard's love-child was at my school.

I once had a French GF who was always complaining how rubbish my town was/is. No cinema, no art gallery, no decent shops etc etc, all very French and pouty. "Tell me eh? Tell me, 'oo 'as' even 'eard of zis place? Cest merde! 'As anyone fammoose ezzer came from 'ere? Non"

"Well. there's Mick Jagger and Keith Richards"

That shut her up.

reply

Reading between the lines, I gotta' figure your French girlfriend must've had un cul chaud et une douce chatte poilue for you to tolerate such snobbery and ethnocentrism.

reply

No, she didn’t have any dogs or cats.

reply

Clearly, she didn't bother teaching you the language. Get somebody who actually speaks French to translate that for you.

reply

I always skip openings. I don't mind leaving this one on.
