How does Slough House become Slow Horses?

Took me a while to connect that's what they were saying.

reply

I happen to think calling the show (and the book it was based upon) 'Slough House' would have been a better choice.

reply

The title pun does have a certain connection to the dry humor of the show.

reply

They call people working there "donkeys", that might have something to do with slow horse.

reply

When was that ... I've seen all the seasons and I don't recall hearing anyone calling the slow horses donkeys?

reply

It was in the beginning, the first episode, when they got data from the thumb drive, they needed someone to hand deliver to the second desk, Taverner said to Lamb over the phone:"Why don't you send one of your donkeys?"

It was supposed to be Sid, but she was not there, so River got the job.

reply

Hmmm, I seem to recall that, but I took it as more of a reference to a mule, as in hauling cargo, because it was not used again or in other seasons.

They do a good job on this series in terms of the wacky comedy, but to me comedy and suspense can never get past mild entertainment. Gary Oldman's constant omnipotent flatulance is funny but ridiculous.

Did you ever notice Luisa's/Rosalind Eleazar's fingers?

reply

Not really, my attention definitely was not on a woman's fingers.

Lamb must have a story because he was an excellent field agent. I am still on S01E04, so not very far into the story as yet.

But this is just when it started to get interesting.

Though I would not consider this as a comedy per se.

Pay attention next episode. I like that actress and it is a tribute to her acting skill that she got this part. You might not make the best spy or police officer. ;-)

reply

Me? I could not even make a souffle without forgetting something. I already given up on that by the way.

I could definitely leave a top secret file somewhere. I am lucky to get in even the Slough House :)

reply

Ah, you mean the finger deformity of the actress.

Though she did not really stand up in the show. I just finished season 1, Lamb, Taverner, Ho, Sid and River were the ones I paid most attention.

I liked Sid, was hoping her being a regular.
