Both me and my missus were aghast that this dark and slow version veered so much from the original:
It was mostly about the lawyer, living in a slum and his sickness, lack of love from his wife, his attempted rape of his wife, about having the "Maid did it" and her hanging, the suicide. not enough cats in the story, no plt twist of the gigolo being killed at the end.
I gave it only a 4 out of 10

I also thought it was rubbish. It was so slow moving, with the pacing, photography and performances making everything seem as dreary as possible.
Andrea Riseborough was terrible, with only one facial expression. Her Romaine was so creepy that she might as well have had "EVIL" tattooed on her forehead. The other actors did decent jobs, but the poor casting of such a pivotal character made the production even duller than it would have been with a more charismatic lead.

It was rubbish. I hoping it would improve in the 2nd part so watched it all. I wish I had never recorded it in the first place or my recording had gone wrong.
