Spooky

The best movies always give us time to know the main characters, and Camp Cold Brook does that with Jack, played by Chad Michael Murray. Getting to know him and his family helps us invest in the character. The other three leads are only touched on superficially, but it’s enough so we care for them (particularly Danielle Harris). When the spooky stuff starts, the movie begins to work up a strong sense of creeping dread. Woods are already creepy, and the director does a good job of wringing every last little bit of tension and spookiness out of them.

If I have any complaint, it would be the story doesn’t feel complete. There are many questions left unanswered (which isn’t always a bad thing), but the movie feels a tad bit rushed and muddled at the end. Overall though, Camp Cold Brook works up some decent chills. If you’re looking for blood and gore, look elsewhere. Camp Cold Brook creates its scares the old-fashioned way.

The obvious flaw in the witch's plan is that ***SPOILER ALERT*** 27 years had passed since she poisoned the kids with 28 of them drowning in the river, so using the two daughters of the star of the reality show to complete her spell -- a total of 30 kids in exchange for the resurrection of her daughter -- would presumably result in a revived daughter who looks like a 27 year-old corpse. She might want to rethink it.

"Pet Sematary" debuted the year before the witch lost her daughter. Surely she would know of the possible negative repercussions of resurrected a loved one via black magic?
