First episode
Really wanted to like this but I just found it a bit cheesy and predictable.

It was atrocious.
There was a better production made by ITV about 20 years called The Grand.
It's that man again!!
I loved The Grand! I think I'd rather dust it off for a rewatch than continue on with The Halcyon.

Have watched the second episode, and the acting from the brothers and some of the other less experienced cast is not good, the script is predictable (and this from a great scriptwriter, who, if memory serves me, writes wonderfully for Doc Martin!), a lot of posturing without substance. Some people are good but the material lets them down. I have seen The Grand and part of the Spanish one (I just wasn't in the mood at the time) and agree they are superior so far. I will continue to watch to see if it improves, but not holding my breath!
shareImo The Grand was at least as soapy and probably even soapier than The Halcyon. So far on The Halcyon, we haven't had a girl having an abortion because she was impregnated by her father.
shareYou're the one missing out. The Halcyon is much better than The Grand ever was. The first ep was cheesy, but it has improved enormously since then and has surpassed The Grand in every way.
shareOh come on! The Grand was a huge cheesefest! They even had a story line about the owner's brother's wife miscarrying, but faking her pregnancy and then buying a newborn infant to substitute for the child she miscarried.
