Sequel? If so, to what?

Is this a sequel to a certain animated movie in the franchise? Or one of the games? IMDB says it's a sequel to the 3rd game but that sounds random and maybe not correct. Anyone know for sure? I'm not too knowledgeable on the Resident Evil mythos so if somebody knows these characters better than me they might have an idea.

Fill me in, because this trailer was great and I have Resident Evil: Damnation waiting to watch on Blu Ray right now. I was kinda hoping it's a trailer to that movie.

I think it's a sequel.

Resident Evil Degeneration, released in 2012
Resident Evil Damnation, released in 2015
Resident Evil Vendetta, released in 2017.

It's not a sequel to the third game. The third game has noone of the cast from this game in it.

It's not a sequel to anything particular. Just another CGI movie, which will probaly have a stand alone story.
It might connect to Re6 the most, since it has Chris and Leon and Neo Umbrella is mentioned.
