So the kids finally show evidence to the PD that Mackey is the killer and you need to tell me that they didn't arrest him right away?? What was that scene when the kid was looking out his window watching cops at mackeys house? Doesn't make sense.
If you watch it again, the chief says to "bring that sick SOB in." However, no one seems to be able to find him. Evidently, he got wise to the fact the rest of the police were looking for him. While the police were uncovering evidence at the house, Mackey had been hiding in the paperboy's attic.
