I really enjoyed the show. I originally thought it would be stupid to have a show about women's wrestling so it took me three years to watch it. The show is certainly a bit silly at times BUT it's a lot of nostalgic fun. I actually saw a few episodes of the original show back in the mid-eighties when young ladies in leotards was must-see TV.

I didn't understand why the ladies would be attracted to Sam when he is old and grumpy. I thought Ruth would try to keep things going with Russell instead of getting back with Sam. The question is whether Ruth was looking for an opportunity on Sam's casting couch. Would Ruth have landed the role if she started dating Sam?

I thought Bash would end up as a cross-dresser since he had all the women's clothing in his house. The whole gigolo scene was a bit of a shocker since Bash was very possessive when Rhonda previously received the bike riding lesson. Episode 9 of the third season got really gay-friendly since Arthie was struggling with her sexual identity, the drag queen was doing a lot of shows at the Rhapsody and Bash was also working out his issues. Rhonda didn't appear to want a baby with Bash but that might have changed in the next season. They could possibly make their relationship work if it was open and kinky BUT Bash has some serious sexual issues.

I thought Ruth would have loved being the director of the women's wrestling show but she must have wanted to get away from Debbie. It would have been interesting to see if JJ sought revenge against Debbie for betraying him by stealing the TV network deal. Ruth's character reminded me of Shelly Long's portrayal of Diane in Cheers. It was great to see an older Geena Davis in a showgirl outfit. I didn't recognize her but I thought she was probably a babe in her youth.

I really like the show, too, and I think it's a great look at a group of people who feel like outsiders and cast-offs finding personal growth and power in creating their own world of weirdos. I think all the performances are really strong, and there's some sharp writing here, too. The atmosphere is great, as well. I like Alison Brie from other shows, but Marc Maron as Sam was the standout, for me - although I basically like everybody in the cast; solid ensemble.

Ruth's attraction to Sam is a bit of a question mark for me, too. I get his attraction to her, which warms up nicely from their first meeting, but I felt like we didn't see her warm up to him as much in the same manner. There's a bit, but not enough. I think maybe she started to see him as a romantic prospect once she started working with him more and more and understood his artistic depths. When he's describing his vision for the GLOW set, for instance (in the hotel they wind up not being able to afford).

I don't think dating Sam would have changed her status in the audition. Sam's priority was in not f-ing up his daughter's film, and he was prioritising Justine, so I think Ruth would have been left to twist either way.

Bash was, as far as I could tell, a deeply-closeted gay man, only loved Rhonda as a friend, and was running from who he really was. His possessiveness of Rhonda was a show, for himself as much as anybody, that he was a red-blooded heterosexual male. Serious sexual issues, indeed.

Ruth was still interested in being an actor. She didn't want to direct. But, yeah, getting away from Debbie was probably part of it. She was done being in Debbie's shadow and in Debbie's world; when Debbie gets to be a producer in season one, it's a massive blow to Ruth, who knows now that she'll be living by Debbie's rules. Living in her shadow was what drove her husband to cheat and what convinced Ruth to be part of that in the first place.
