It seems they're bringing back Mariza, Anella, and Mr. Perlman. But doesn't the dad die in the book during the fast forward?

Not sure what you mean. Does the novel continue where the film ends? In the movie we see the dad having a conversation with his son at the end.
shareIn the book, Mr. Perlman dies in the 20 years fast-forward. They didn't show that in the film; rightfully, so. They just left it at the speech he gives his 17 year old son.
IMDb says there's a slated sequel.
It's meant to be a trilogy, much to our chagrin.
