Will it flop

The last one didn't do so well

actually the last one did really well, with 10 million budget they got back 113 million. But no better than the first 2 movie. I think it will not flop at all, because they already have a lot of follower and also "Conjuring 2" as their attraction generator.

The last one made $112 million worldwide against a $10 million budget. How is that not "doing so well"?

That's an 11x return on the investment. Traditionally, a movie (especially a lower-budget film) really only has to make 2-3x back its budget before it's profitable. (And given that Chapter 3 only had a $10 million budget, you also have to factor in other things, such as TV channels paying for the right to play it, etc, which brings in even more profit) So essentially, with the last one, the studio was printing themselves 10's of millions in profits after the opening weekend. Sure, it made a bit less than the second film, but it still out-grossed the original, and secured a very good gross for the studios.

This one would have to tank hard (like, less than $25 million worldwide at the box office) to be considered a true "flop."

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Flop? NO

I do see the law of diminishing returns...and with 3 being a "weak" sequal, I think this one would make a LOT less. But by no means a FLOP!

As much as I love the Insidous films, this is just an insane statement. Spy (an excellent comedy, btw) out-grossed Insidious opening weekend and in total both domestic and worldwide.

I so enjoyed Spy! Melissa McCarthy did seem to saturate over the years, though. Boss was a fun time, but wasn't as good as I expected. Looking forward to her in Ghostbusters.

And to the person who shaded Prisoners -- that remains one of the best films I've ever seen. So creepy and suspenseful!

They cost peanuts to make so they will not flop. That's why we keep getting sequels and spinoff's. Plus the old lady is back!

but its still good and scary. Maybe people expect too much but it still scary & fun. I dont think the fourth one will flop because they got a strong fanbase all around the world. & I think "Lights Out" and "Conjuring 2" have already set up the way.
