Operation Desert Stumble
Despite it's highly positive reception from fans and critics, The Grand Tour's second episode has been slammed by everyone, fans and critics alike, but to be fair, Operation Desert Stumble was ok.
A lot of fans have said that this episode does not belong in a car show, because it's main segment involves a military operation, with no sign of any cars until the second half, but I feel that The Grand Tour is more of an entertainment program than a car show.
An episode like this would feel out-of-place in Top Gear, but this is not Top Gear. A lot of the things that happen in The Grand Tour aren't car related such as the Celebrity Brain Crash segment, and most of the topics discussed in Conversation Street.
Also, people claim that the episode is boring, I don't see that. I admit that it was not all gold, but there was more good than bad. The final moments with the trio shooting their way to the embassy wouldn't look out-of-place in a Hollywood blockbuster, and seeing James May blowing up a building, was truly special.
There were lots of funny moments within the episode and there are some great lines. Really, why is this boring?
I feel like a lot of people have judged The Grand Tour on Top Gear's formula, forgetting that this is a different show.
At it's heart, this is a show about cars, but when you look at a lot of the elements that have occurred before and after this episode, it starts to feel more like Operation Desert Stumble belongs in this show.
