Ok I will admit, the American was hilarious yesterday

The whole american character is just ok, I dont hate him as much as people seem to do here, I also dont like him, not because the idea is bad but because its so horribly scripted and the guy isn't even like that in real life (or so ive heard) so it takes away from the fun and funny.

But man, when he is in that crazy futuristic honda and goes "what is this space invaders sht?!?"

That was hilarious.

He slipped in an electric chair joke too. lol

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

My son laughed at the chair bit.

It's hard choosing a worst segment on The Grand Tour, but the American has to be one of the front runners for the title. So cringey and awful every single time.

reply

Yeah the American character isn't for us in America. I think it's more for the international audience to laugh at an American cariacature.

reply

Correct, the electric chair was also great.

I think the bit has potential but this guy just has no charisma. If you want a good ol boy ex Nascar driver there must be somebody willing to take the job who still has the driving skills and is actually from the south and can read a line with at least some acting ability.

I nominate Ricky Wallace, but that's not the point.

Mike Skinner knows this is an "act". He's supposed to look like a fat Evel Kinevel in his 1970's race suit. The fact that he can drive these cars is what makes the show. If Skinner was as dumb as The Grand Tour have done by stereotype made him out to be, he couldn't handle those "communist" cars with right hand drive.

I find the American to be too much of a downer compared to Jezza. They don't seem to be on the same page. Maybe that's on purpose but still. Not fun to watch. He looks like he's not even trying. The stig had more charisma than the American.

The show has really come together, and I can almost live with their celebrities always dying. But The American is just awful. 100% of each time he's on. Sounds like he's reading a script, no acting ability, etc. And for a test driver, I tend to no believe what he posts if he's not enjoying the driving. Screw that guy.

I don't see a way to recover it, hope they drop it for S2.

You would think that someone like Jeff Gordon would be a natural for this. Yeah, he doesn't need the money, but he is a high-level and recently retired driver, and what a way to cement his name in yet another seminal car show.
