Too Juvenile

I loved Top Gear but The Grand Tour bits seem too juvenile, almost unwatchable. Anyone else find the show the same? It seems like a reality tv show with comic book characters who try to hard to be funny but misunderstand what being funny means. It seems the character traits are too extreme and overused.

I agree sort of. I still enjoy it but not as much as old top gear. Hopefully season 2 they will try and change things up a bit but probably not

Eh most british tv is pretty silly like this.

reply

Lol you've never watched any British tv have you? I can tell you it's a lot better than the over the top yank rubbish that gets churned out

Ive spent tons of time in the UK and a lot of the comedic stuff is very similar to this. Is very dead pan or to some juvenile.

S1E10: "Jeremy you're 56 years old". Reply: "but I have the mentality of a 9 year old". I'm paraphrasing, but it fairly sums up the tone of the show now more than ever. It has become The Three Stooges with maybe some cars. Just a bit too stupid and heavily scripted. Also, what is the point of moving the show at great expense to various locations and then mostly ignoring it? Nashville tent then most of the show pre-made in Wales and Barbados while the canned audience cheers with fake enthusiasm.

I personally feel that the last few years of Top Gear weren't much different to Grand Tour, and I don't mind some of the scripted scenes provided they're funny and we're getting some information about cars.

The Grand Tour was never really advertised as a Car Show, which is why I like Operation Desert Stumble, so as long as we have the wonderful trio, I don't mind. It's funny and it works!

Also, as a side-note, American humour is much sillier than British humour. You just have to compare the stand-up comedians and sit-coms to see that! I like both types, but American is sillier!

reply

Yes. totally agree with op.
Some dumb producers who think their humour is 'appealing' to younger audiences.
