Maybe a Dumb Question (SPOILERS)

Did the family (especially husband) think the medicine was a possible "cure" or euthanasia? The "mercy" aspect suggests euthanasia but their greed and reluctance to use the medicine was contradictory (if they thought they were euthanizing the woman.)

They knew it was a cure. They didn't want to use it because they were after the cut of inheritance money. It's clever that it makes you think it's too end her suffering when it's actually the opposite

Thanks, makes sense. What an interesting twist. Also I got a chuckle watching the old woman give Brad the evil eye as they carried her out the house.

We thought it was to end her suffering because they explicitly said "this is to end her suffering." The way it was written makes no sense.

reply

It would end her suffering, it would make her better.

DEAR MODS: PLZ REDUCE MY POSTING QUOTA. 30 MIN IS WAY TOO MUCH.

It made absolute sense. I understand you didn't like the movie, which is totally fine, but looking for reasons to justify that dislike looks like bias to me -sorry.

They wanted Mercy for her by ending the pain she was in. By giving her the cure, she wasn't in pain anymore. Her husband and his sons were just waiting for her to die. I'm not sure why the other sons didn't want to help her - especially since they would be cut out of the inheritance if she were to die.

It was a weird movie.

They made it way too obvious almost immediately. Right in the beginning They find the doctors bag with the mystery medicine in the trash and we're supposed to think that it's some kind of euthanasia soltution that the dad is refusing to go through with, but then they immediately start talking about how the money's going to get distributed when she dies and not to tell the other brothers about it. It was not subtle at all.

Everything after that is just trying to make it all sound much more complicated than it really was.
