shareWho is the navigator lady?
shareYou mean Charlize Theron?
shareI've been complaining about what I always referred to as a "female guttural growl" (for lack of a better term) for twenty something years, but never heard a name assigned to it.
In any case, it used to drive me nuts, but I've become more numb to it over the years, but do miss the lyrical tone that's the natural timbre of the female voice. I didn't find any of this annoying in The Orville yet.
One of the pleasures of old movies and TV shows is to hear natural female voices. Even women with normally low registers (Patricia Oneal) are smooth and well modulated.
i didn't even know this phenomenon is 20 years old...wow
shareAnd yet, it makes me want to have sex with both of them.

Never knew this myself until now, lol.
All those videos showed to me is "Vocal Fry = Valley Girl"
sharePosting about what vocal fry is is so 2012. (To the max.) And we used to just call it creaky voice before that.
shareCreaky voice/vocal fry, under any name, was, is, and will continue to be annoying, regardless of what year it is heard.
shareGive it another try. If you feel the same this might not be the show for you. And that is ok.
shareI like the show a lot, and I actually never even noticed that these two characters have vocal fry (if they do), even though I find that affectation irritating. It never occurred to me until I read this thread.
shareOP's first post had exactly 21 words in it. Twenty One!!! This is unacceptable. I couldn't read it. Too annoying.
