I am afraid to get invested in a show only for it to be cancelled less then a year after it premiered . Seth Mc Farlane live action shows gets often cancelled. How is the Orville doing right now? Do you suspect it will survive a second season?

people are watching it for curiosity's sake ... I think there is no there, there, it will get cancelled. It is an effort to watch, and not really a pay off. Sad they seem to have put a lot of effort into it, but not into anything that counts.
shareFrom a person that tracks ratings, it's doing alright considering the circumstances and shows that it's up against in its slot. It actually surprised many when it moved to Thursday on its second week because it was up against football and the Will & Grace revival but it held the same rating meaning it may have found an audience. It's close to going fractional though. I don't know if this is a full season show but if it is, then by spring it will definitely dip to fractional region which will lead to a cancellation. To be honest though, FOX as a network doesn't even have an audience. So it's a toss up with most of their shows but especially the ones in their first season. Right now it's safe but it could be bleak later.

"The fifth episode of the season aired on October 5 and attracted more than 3.4 million live viewers. That is more than the 2.84 million viewers Fox’s Gotham‘s attracted on the same night, and more live viewers than any Gotham episode has attracted since the middle of its third season."
I read elsewhere that their ratings on Thursday was the best for Fox in years.
I hope it gets at least another season. liking it so far.
