My take was that she mentioned it to provoke a reaction. Either he calms her nerves and she doesn't cheat, or he gets upset which "justifies" her cheating on him. It was completely selfish of her to say something to a bf who's hundreds of miles away and can't do or say anything. She didn't even explain the situation or reassure him that she's committed to him and told Bobby no. She just threw it out there to see how he'd react. Felt bad for the guy.
