It Was Decent But Not Great

it had some laughs

I agree. Pretty much what I expected.

I thought the first 45 minutes or so felt pretty bland and generic. But after that it starts to pick up and find its groove.

In the end, I thought it was a fairly funny and entertaining Christmas comedy, and it was fun just to see all the guys together in one movie.

Overall I'd give it a 6.5/10.

Saw it today for the fourth time (i won't spoil the celeb cameo or who his family relaitonship was, as it would spoil something about Brad (Will Ferrell) and his dad (John Lithgow)'s relationship). Loved seein' both Assesandra "Karen" Ambrosia and Linda "Sara" Cardellini..VERY nice.

Agreed. It was amusing but silly in places. Got emotional over the karaoke of Do they know it's christmas? though. It's my favourite christmas song too. Personally this year at the cinema my favourite christmas film was Bad Moms Christmas. That was better than this.

The first one was better imo. Decent film with an actually surprising message at the end. And it had characters who seem to change and become better people at the end after walking a mile in the other one's shoes.

The second one had some laughs but it was also kind of a mess, juggling so many rapid-fire conversations and characters.

I re-watched last night.

It's enjoyable.
I laughed at a lot more scene than I remembered.

reply

I love it.
It has moved into the yearly Christmas movies we watch.

It's a solid Christmas film. Not a must-watch classic of the caliber of something like A Christmas Carol (1951), Christmas Vacation of Elf, but an enjoyable B-level entry that's certainly much better than the vast majority of other Christmas films that get churned out each year (I'm thinking specifically of the endless run of Hallmark-type stuff).

I said in an earlier post that I'd give it a 6.5/10, but I think I'd probably bump that up to a 7. It's one of the better Christmas films of the 21st century, which has only given us a handful of memorable ones.
