Should be renamed "Horrible People - The movie"

I thought the idea of the plot was quite interesting and also William Dafoe had a really good performance, but my god, watching these people for 110 minutes was just cruel.

The children were annoying rude brats, the adults white trash low-brainers. No moral behaviour, just a-holes all the way.

Why would I want to enjoy a movie, which is nothing else, than an avarage american reality-tv show, only 5 times the length?

reply

Well, American reality-tv shows are not that known in countries other than America, so I enjoyed the movie almost as much as 'Stranger Than Paradise' or 'Mud'!

Just because a movie has characters that act horribly doesen't mean that you can't tell a story through them that is captivating and interesting. I thought that this was a very good movie.

I agree that Willem Dafoe was very good in it and he was the character that we could identify with, but I think that everyone gave a good and believable performance. And I think that that is partly proven by the fact that you are so angry at them.

reply

Even though I think Dafoe stood out of them, I don't doubt, that everyone had really good performances (I guess most of them weren't even real actors). Still it just truly annoys me, why they didn't bother putting in some more reasonable characters, who have actually an arguing culture or something, not just yelling and screaming.

This movie had Trump activist prototypes all the way, which can't be a goal for a story like this

But WHY do they act that way? The film wants to to get the viewer thinking about why these people can sometimes be so crude, violent and confrontational. The mother and daughter are shown having loving, tender moments throughout the film. So why can't they always be like that? Constantly living on the brink of homelessness can bring out the worst in people. The mother has the potential to be a great mother to Moon, but the poverty that she finds herself trapped in strips away her comfort and security. Imagine having a young daughter, and also having to struggle every day to make enough money to keep a roof over your head. That must be incredibly stressful. It's understandable that she sometimes does stuff that we consider to be reckless or antisocial.

The Florida Project does a fantastic job at showing characters living in poverty, and actually presenting them in a realistic way that shows both their flaws and strengths. It's really uncommon for a film to do such a good job of characterisation. I hope more people see it because I think it's a really empathetic film that shows the way poverty can dehumanise people who have the potential to live normal, happy lives.

Total lowlife scum, but "Trump activist prototypes"? Not really. These were democrat voters all the way (if they ever bothered to vote at all). Trash always votes democrat because they're uneducated, and for all the free stuff they can get.

Thanks for your valuable insight into the film. However it seems that you meant to reply to a comment above mine.

Amen, kat! Definitely scumbag Crooked Hillary voters living off the government.

Why do they act that way? That's simple, they're scumbags, end of sentence.

Yeh, people do it every day when they get up and go to work. She chose not to go to work, rather steal, sell counterfit perfume and prostitute herself. My god, she wouldnt lower herself to go as low as clocking in to a job stocking shelves all day.

Dont worry daddy government will facilitate your poor life choices because you popped a crotch demon out of your cooch.

The whole movie she only faced consequences once for every awful decision she made, no matter who she fucked over or what she did, same with the kid who learnt quickly from mama, do you what feel, do whatever you want no matter how sh!tty it is, poor choices dont matter, feels before reals. If its working without consequence why change?

If there's always someone to feel sorry for you and give you a few bucks, theres always daddy government with the tax payers money to bail you out why change.

Its the same here in the UK, pop a kid out, get a free house, get free money, you are given a get out of work free pass.

Poor life decisions and consequences?

Take it easy, daddy government got this, put your feet up and relax. If it pays to be like that, why try put yourself through the misery of an alarm going off at 6am every morning then going to work for 8+ hours every day.

I couldn't have said it better, pal. This was a truly disgusting film about a lowlife scumbag with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It was terrible - 4/10.

reply

LOL, you judge a film on how likable the characters are??? You should never watch anything but Disney then.

reply

No I based it on the fact that it was a boring, depressing, disgusting film about lowlife scumbags with no redeeming qualities and absolutely no point that I could discern.

And just because I didn't like it doesn't mean I'm a Disney film person. No need to be arrogant and snotty, SW.

Yeah, there kinda was. Your statements plastered all over these message boards come off as trollish, just disparaging with nothing to back it up. Luckily the majority of audience and critics disagree and see what I see and appreciate amazing acting and realism. They don't just spout profanity because they think it makes them seem tough. It kinda reminds me of the type of people in this film that you mention, to be honest.

reply

No, there was definitely not. I gave you my honest opinion, and you implied that I was some kind of low grade moron who only likes Disney movies.

And exactly where did I spout profanity in this thread? You need to re-read my posts, Mr. Arrogance.

Too bad we can't all be perfect like you.

Your statement about it being about a real part of society that you find (and may well be) disgusting has literally nothing to do with how good a movie is. So a movie about murderers is bad? A movie about a villain is a bad movie? So a movie about any criminal is bad? That was what you suggested, so therefore it sounds like you want Disney, but then even they have villains and disgusting people, so what's your point?

Re-read my post, tard.

"tard"? ...LOL, now how on Earth did I get the idea you were acting like a troll? Hmmm...

Your prior posts speak for themselves.

reply

And how on Earth did you get the idea that you had anything intelligent to say?

😎

reply

...as I just said, compare the posts you were leaving all over this board with mine. Yours were trollish disparaging remarks that had nothing to do with the merit of the film. Mine were backed up and thoughtful. That's how.

Okay SW, I'm tired of you now. You're just like several other posters. You pick a fight and then go all holier than thou, and accuse the other person of being stupid for not understanding your sublime logic. You're an arrogant, self righteous ass.

Well, thankfully there's a cure for assholes like you. I'm now putting you on Ignore. So bye now, and please have a really CRAPPY life!
