Horrible character writing
i enjoyed kavanagh's last movie 'the canal', but 'son' is a letdown. even for horror standards, the characters are completely bland and unbelievable.
how does the lead character go from cult fugitive to a seemingly normal middle class woman, owning a house, etc.? what does she even do for a living? apart from her cult past, we get no information on who she is, what her normal life looks like.
and the son - i spotted a 'plan 9 from outer space' poster in his room. you'd excpect this in a room of some grown-ass film geek, but we're talking about a little kid who likes to watch cartoons.
