Why did they set this in Virginia?
Just like the first movie, anyone familiar with the South would recognize the trees and landscape as Louisiana. That's kinda weird.

shareWas Louisiana in the war ? If so, probably there wasnt much fight there so I suggest the director wanted Louisiana's landscape but had to pretend it was in Virginia for historical Reason.
shareMaybe they set in Virginia because Virginia was on the border between North and South, and had a mixed and divided culture at the time, and a person who was trying to escape from one side could get to the other. That gives the setting a lot more dramatic potential than, say, Mississippi, which was 100% deeeep South and surrounded by more deep South.
It really is a pity that they couldn't take the trouble to make the setting actually look like Virginia, but that's hardly new. About 80% of the films ever made have my home state of California trying to pass as some other place!
