Dissapointed extra

I was an extra working my first gig (employed by Universal extras) i spent 12hrs in the cold in Hull with the annoying director kept shouting and yelling all the time. We spent 5hrs plus filming the court scene standing in one spot and then spent another 6hrs filing at night in the city center. After all this Universalextras paid (after taking their cut) and then taxes £25 wow slave labour indeed. The whole experience put me off from watching this drama so i gave it 1 star for my inconvenience

Bloody Hell. I know a couple people who do extra work (in London) and they get paid around £100 a day!

It was my first (and last) job i knew the agency took their cut but the amount of money they took was just too much. When i challenged them they refused to budge

Sounds like its the Extra Company as supposed to the Production Company. I'm guessing they just hire extras from various companies and anything regarding the actual Extras is up to the Extra Company.

Looks like you joined a really bad one. My mates not only got roughly £100 a day, but also Lunch included too. That and shooting was 10am till around 6pm and not 18 hours like you.

£25 is bull.

What company are your mates with?

So you actually got paid £31.25 less the £6.25 tax you obviously should pay. That's certainly less than the supposed average of £50-100, but surely you knew in advance what you were getting?

reply

I knew they will take their usual fees but wasn't aware they would take this much. It is a
lesson which i will apply for next time with another agency

2 of my friends, as well as a family member, were also extras in this production, for the scenes filmed in Hull. They were all paid £80 per day of filming.

You're either telling porkies, or were diddled.

My brother worked as an extra for about two years, ten years ago and he cleared £60 a day, back then and meals were provided. He was paid a lot more if he had to interact with characters ie take their coat, or react to someone running past. He got £100's if he had a line.
You've been ripped off by your agency, mate. It's not Channel 4's fault.

I think I know his agent: https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/2199430872/lamb.jpg

Hooted at that Darknut! 😂😂
Just as an aside - one of the extras on 'Elizabeth', with Kate Blanchet, had an argument about pay because he interacted with Elizabeth/Blanchet.
It's a scene where she walks in, smiling to and fro, while everyone is grovelling. She held her hand out to the aforementioned extra, who - in character - bowed and kissed her hand.
They tried to tell him that he hadn't been 'directed' to interact. He said "What was I supposed to do? Should I have ignored her and spoilt the scene? Told her that she wasn't my type?". They had to cough up - rules is rules!
