I kept wondering what her job was and just realized, I don't think we ever find out!

Well, Ethan and Lisa joke at one time that Marianne has nothing to do and is a like a cat, she just naps and eats. Then we also learn that Marianne likes to stage weird plays, but that's obviously just a hobby.

Something like that wouldn't pay much even if she wanted it to.

She must have a trust fund, but no they never mention it. She is the one who does the least, but is the only one that can put people up for a little bit. That didn't even occur to me until I read this post. haha

It's just that a living situation like that in Manhattan costs so much that it's completely out of reach even to people with pretty high incomes (like $200k, say).

You mean get there and realize all they can afford is a small room some where? I have no idea about prices, but I do know its hella expensive to live there.
