shareIf he was timid they'd be treating him like Brian. He said the first day he was in the pod that he wanted that area because he could see everything. If he had a cell he couldn't see everything. This guy is a retired cop. He's there to get info. So his strategy makes sense. Everyone in that pod has studied him just like everyone else and no one has given him trouble. He's never given any sign or behavior of someone that's timid.
Seriously, how do you know he IS timid. What has he done or said to make you feel that way?

shareWhy does he need to do anything ... no one in that pod has dared to challenge him in any manner. Some people have a commanding presence without having to act a certain way. The others have to act in ways to prove they're not weak. The "I'm not weak" act has already put Ryan in a bad position of empathizing with inmates and irritating the program organizers; the other guy in the program stood his ground with using the shower and we have yet to see if that leads to future challenges. Meanwhile, Quentin's kicked back and being left alone. What's he supposed to do, go around exerting power for the hell of it?
