Reagan was literally one of the worst presidents America has ever had.
I have to vehemently disagree. History will judge Reagan's contributions but the facts speak for themselves: with his laughable "Star Wars" missile defence system -- a technology Reagan knew full well would never fly -- he scared the USSR into increasing their defence spending until they collapsed. He bluffed them and they blinked. With this and his support for Polands Solidarity etc Reagan deserves much of the credit for ending the Cold War and pulling down the Wall. That the CIA/military-industrial complex sponsored president, Bush Snr, didn't follow up and wind-up NATO was a tragedy and a missed opportunity. In fact, with the massive expansion of NATO since then, enrolling former USSR allies like Poland, Bulgaria etc threatening Russia's borders it's arguable that the threat of war in Europe is now higher than in Reagan's day. Sad.
I remember all the malarkey directed at Reagan's having his "finger on the button". Well, the button wasn't pushed. Reagan left the presidency with the world safer than when he started. Subsequent presidents have not followed up. Peace Prize winner Obama has the shameful record of having America in conflict somewhere in the world EVERY DAY of his presidency. Same "finger on the button" fear-and-loathing is now being peddled about Trump. We shall see, won't we?
