I actually liked Nick more before this show, but we never really got to know him before.
I like Katrina, she thinks outside the box, but Nick comes off as a very emotionally hollow person... he allegedly left Ghost Adventures to spend more time with his family, but that doesn't add up, because leaving a show that does an overnight lockdown to do 72 hour lockdowns results in less time not more, so that had to be a bad excuse for what really happened, a deal that was made to salvage his career and leave the show would be my guess... and no one will ever cop to it, and I'm sure we'll never really know the truth... but on Paranormal Lockdown Nick just seems so emotionally unavailable, so he really needs an open, feeling person like Katrina to co-host or it would be too obvious how devoid he has become, but I think Katrina could develop better with someone who wasn't so closed off.
Agreed, in GA he always seemed like the thoughtful one. In this show he is just trying to milk every bump and creak for all it's worth. Even the EVP's are just noise yet Nick makes up whole conversations, and in every ep, the "Ghost" says their names!
I think Katrina could be a lot more fun as well, with the right co host. She doesn't seem to believe Nick in this either.
Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.
I liked him before too. On Paranormal Lockdown he really seems like a drama queen overreacting to everything. I'm watching The Black Monk house now and he honestly seems legit crazy. He says ghosts followed him home and told him to investigate the black monk house. Ummm ok lol
I agree. I can just imagine Zach in those houses yelling at him to get it together. I think this was a career move that gave him a big chance to head a show, although Katrina doesn't occupy space but is every bit proving to be his equal. What would be embarrassing is that he left from being third wing on GA and be the lead on his own show only to wind up overshadowed by another who operates with a more subdued approach to all that happens.
I think Nick is doing a lot of over-acting in his show, and I think he's an extremely ambitious person. From what I understand, Nick has a degree in film-making and that first episode of Ghost Adventures at Goldfield, NV was basically his baby, his creation. I don't believe for a second that that brick was thrown by a spirit: again, Nick loves horror movies and has a degree in film making - I believe the famous brick throw was totally staged, which Nick totally has the know-how to do with his background in film-making.
Nick now has his own show, he's owned a gym, he does tours, wrote a book ("Chasing Spirits"), has a band, competed in American Ninja Warrior...He's got his fingers in a lot of pies, he is very hungry for more and more success/wealth, and nothing's going to stop him. He's very goal-oriented and ambitious, and he milks every noise for all it's worth on his show because he wants his new show to succeed so badly.

In the recent "Oliver House" episode Nick is standing in front of the 3D mapping camera. As the 3D mapping camera loses lock and attempts to reacquire Nick, Katrina tells Nick not to move that there's a figure. Right on cue Nick states he feels weird. That his eyes are watering up. That something is moving through his body and that he feels a static charge all through his body. That he feels the emotions. That he feels sad and wants to break down. Wow, all that from a toy. With that kind of acting I thought for a moment that Terry Crews intentionally stepped on Nick's Hatchimal egg.
While that sequence was substantially lame, that's not the only issue I had with that episode. For example, just prior to the 3D mapping sequence they attempted to discover where the footsteps they heard in the basement were coming from. Katrina goes back down into the basement and is shown holding her camera. Nick is also shown holding his camera and begins walking the upstairs hallway. We know Rob is upstairs with Nick because the lighting sucks. Between them they have what appears to be a real-time conversation talking through the floor. So, whose filming Katrina in the basement?
The shots of Katrina in the basement are not from a static camera because the footage is not steady. If they pieced the sequence together by having Rob run up and down the stairs, the lighting would have been consistently in UV, not partially in IR. So either they lied about how many people are there during the lockdown or the entire sequence was contrived from recycled footage and that in turn made them look like they lied.
Other observations include, how exactly did Rob lose Katrina? He wasn't with Nick in the crawl space. What the hell was he doing. Katrina was wearing a wireless mic, so Rob should be able to hear her for quite some distance. Why are they not carrying 2-way radios? They tried to make it seem as though Katrina was going out into the spooky forest in the middle of the night, when it was really during morning twilight. Whomever is setting up the static cameras they need to wear their glasses when they adjust the focus.

Forgot to mention, in addition to all Nick's other ventures I listed, he is executive producer and also created a clothing line called Phantom Collection. He really is extremely entrepreneurial & ambitious. He has his eyes on the prize, he's grabbing at the brass ring.
Which season did Nick compete in American Ninja Warrior?
According to the TeamNickGroff website:
"His dedication for sports and wellness led him to open his own gym and in June 2013 he launched the “Drive Health & Fitness” in Methuen, MA, which he co-owned until August 2015. In 2014 he was an “American Ninja Warrior” competitor and applied again for the 2015 edition, he also raced and won the Boston Spartan Race."
He trained for American Ninja Warrior, set up a course in his garden (seen on his Youtube channel) and tried out for the show twice (in 2014 & 2015) but wasn't selected either time. I think after that he gave up on the fitness stuff and concentrated on this new show.
Thanks! That's too bad. I just checked his Youtube and he seems super passionate about ANW. It must have been quite a blow for him to have never made the cut.
Yeah, it sounds very hard to get a place on the show I read 50,000 people sent video's in for 2015's ANW and they toured cities giving a 100 people they picked out a try-out in each place. But at least he got fit and got to show off on Youtube haha
