This is El Ministerio del Tiempo plagiarized

You Americans, learn this series is El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Time Department) plagiarized.

El Ministerio del Tiempo is a Spanish 2015 TV series about a trio of a doctor, a history expert woman and a soldier trying to keep Spain's history unaltered. Exactly what we are getting in Timeless.

A full season of eight episodes aired in 2015, and another of thirteen is airing right now, with the 12th to be broadcast tonight. All of this of course in Spain.

Google "El Ministerio del Tiempo" and check your facts.

It is also the basic plot of Sci-Fi Channels "Rewind". As to ripping off a series from another country it has been done many times before. US shows have been ripped off before and US shows have ripped off shows. Two bigtime US shows that ripped off other shows are:
All in the Family and Threes Company.

Unless they take the scripts and translate word for word, scene for scene no legal action will ever be taken. Even big movies from time to time have taken from other movies. Sadly it is something that is done all the time and people never know about the Originals.

Rewind is much less similar to El Ministerio del Tiempo than Timeless is. Timeless is complete plagiarism. The fact that it's a common occurrence doesn't mean it's less unethical. Not that I expect the real world to revolve on ethics, but the people responsible of Timeless will have a hard time when dealing with mirrors.

"Will have a hard time dealing with mirrors"?

Ha.. ha.. ha.. No van a poder mirarse al espejo.

I'm going to use this in English.

Regarding the plagiarism. El ministerio del tiempo is not the first story about forces to keep history preserved. I'm thinking Timecop, for example. The doors reminds to "monsters" and the team to "Rewind". The truly original concept of El ministerio del tiempo is "El tiempo es el que és" 2016 is the real time and they can't travel into the future. I don't think they will use that in Timeless.

They can't travel into the future? How original! It's not like Quantum Leap, Voyagers! or even Timecop as you mentioned didn't do that decades ago.

So just how is the premise of this highly original show of yours significantly different from say, the 1997 Timecop series? Or the 2002 unsold pilot of Time Tunnel? Or Time Trax from 1993?

reply

All in the Family and Threes Company.

These were not ripoffs. They were approved remakes of the originals.

Lmao they just moved the grieving for a recently lost wife from the funny guy to the soldier guy. And made the funny guy black. Well, and used a time machine instead of time portals (even more funny, because a recurring villain in the Spanish series IS a group of American time travelers who use a time machine instead of time portals).

Fox was in talks to buy an American remake. I suppose they'll pass now.

reply

Who the hell cares? Everything has been done before. When have you ever had an original thought? Get over yourself. That show is airing in Spain, so it's not like Americans can watch it.

reply

And the Spanish version likely plagiarized the idea from elsewhere. There is no such thing as originality these days, especially when it comes to time travelling.

And we all know someone somewhere said "What if I just tweaked Doctor Who...."

Or it could be inspired by Timecop, the US TV series from 1997, a little before 2015, itself based on a mediocre movie.

Scifi writer Poul Anderson wrote a story series decades ago called "The Time Patrol". Time cops going back in time to keep villains from changing history. Sounds like El Ministerio del Tiempo stole his idea.
