TimePod Landing Area: Always Safe?

I can buy a lot of the theoretical timeloop science stuff that the writers are trying to get us to believe, however one thing I am not sure about is this:

How do they control where the TimePod lands when it goes back in history, as in what type of an environment does the Pod touch down on?

Could it be that the Pod lands into water? What if the Pod appears a few feet off a cliff? What if it gets stuck half in a mountain half in a river?

There is no way to predict where the Pod will land in the past, only the date/time/place not the actual environment. And with so many moving parts as we saw in the film the Pod can sustain catastrophic damage at any point if it arrives into the wrong environment.

Thoughts?

Ya i agree even BAck to the Future explained this whn Doc Brown took marty to the drive in because he knew back in the day it was nothing but open plains, and even then he almost hits those oncoming natives.

If i had $1 everytime i had no clue what was going on, id ask people why they were giving me dollars

A great thought that they probably haven't thought of or try to skip. Like most time-traveling shows they will avoid the getting stuck half in a mountain and half in a river concept.

Maybe the machine has sensors that delay materialization until it is confirmed the landing site is on solid ground and not water, quicksand or the middle of rocks.

That still will not prevent the machine from landing on an animal (a bear ie) or there may not be any water there now or rocks but the landing of the machine may trigger a mud slide, rock slide, the earth may collapse under the weight of the machine if it lands into a delta, it can land on an angle (why does it always land so perfectly) and tip over...

There is so many ways that the machine can be damaged, this is why time travel should only be done point- to - point one facility to another facility or just teleport the human not the actual machine.

Moving the large metallic machine into another time line over and over you will undoubtedly destroy it within a few runs imho.

I agree. It could also land in a big tree. Ooh and landing at an angle, it only has the one "escape" hatch? Yes appearing with the hatch blocked by debris would be a problem.

That's easily handwaved away by saying that the pod automatically locates a suitably safe landing site.

Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything.

Even if they find a safe place to land, how can you guarantee the pod wont be spotted by a farmer or passing hunter?
