Wow, there's stupid and then there's this show

You're holding a bomb next to a window inside an airship that is flying over empty farmland. Do you A) break the window, dispose of the bomb into the acres of uninhabited grass and forest below, or do you B) grab some steak knives and force a bridge full of trained german officers to land the ship along with a hundred and five pound untrained girl in heels?

That the writers actually thought B was the correct choice completely ruined this show for me. Good job, NBC, on cranking out yet another ridiculous, predictable and unimaginative bit of drivel.

*Edit* Fixed it, thanks for the comments and thanks IMDB for not allowing edits from your app or mobile website.

Yeah. I gotta admit, that was really stupid.

That the writers actually thought A was the correct choice...

I think you mean "B", right?

reply

Yeah I'll fix that from my laptop when I get home. Can't edit from the app or mobile website for some reason.

reply

I agree. Writing was awful...give me John Milius for some kick ass writing.

reply

The writing is just horrible. While A would have been the way to go, there are probably a hundred choices between A and B that would have made more sense than B. Even bringing the bomb into the cockpit and showing it to them would have made more sense than attacking them with knives.

This writing goes way beyond idiotic. It goes way beyond childish. It actually offends me these writers are being paid and have a job, when it's clearly not deserved.....

Showing them that modern bomb would not have resulted in any favorable results. They would not have believed it to be a bomb so what would the point of showing it to them be exactly? They probably would have meddled with it to the point of detonation.

It's fine to discuss what if this or what if that. But if you can't come up with something better than what the writers themselves did then why bother?

Seriously? If you're going to attempt to feign intellect, you should spend a little time researching first. Clearly you're nowhere near as intelligent as you'd like to be, or believe yourself to be. Wires, plastic explosives, and digital clocks all existed since at least the 1800s. Bombs have been around longer. Even time bombs. So, someone seeing something shoved in their face, made of components they'd recognize, and being told it's a bomb,    would lead them to believe it was a bomb. Anyone smarter than you (it seems) would comprehend, and that would probably encompass the entire population across time and space.

They're not going to be in a position to take it apart and disect it piece by piece. And even if they did see a clock that looked more futuristic, compared to any previous digital clock they've seen, they'd know it was a clock (clearly you wouldn't). Just like they'd still understand the device to be a bomb. A quick view of something would not give them the know-how to then build it later and alter time.

So, if you can't reply with something intelligent, why bother? Are you one of the writers? Probably not. You can't even reach their low bar.

Defusing the bomb makes sense when you consider it's being done by the same "hand picked, highly trained" soldier who can't resist ignoring orders about changing history by saving Kate Hammond. I'm all for suspension of disbelief in order to make a show work, but this is just lazy writing. It's very much out of character to portray a professional operative acting in this manner, regardless of his wife's plight. I may watch another episode (for Abigail Spencer), but there are too many really great shows to watch to spend time on this mediocrity. If you want a much better time travel conundrum show, check out "Continuum".

reply

I agree, "Continuum" is much smarter and actually talks through a number of paradoxes during the seasons

- unfortunately, Season 3 is a total disaster....the writers put themselves in a corner and stupidity was the only exit left.

reply

That was my first thought. Throw it out the window! Then I thought oh how dumb am I of course those windows aren't easily broken!! Nope 10 minutes later they are breaking windows everywhere.

reply

Right? I was yelling at the TV "oh NOW you break the windows!"

reply

They weren't that high off the ground. Dropping the bomb most likely would have resulted in its detonation which would have brought the Hindenberg down regardless. Trying to get the bomb off the ship or disarming it was the smart choice.

Like the show or don't like the show but it's very imaginative. You're incorrect in suggesting otherwise.

Wrong again. Modern plastic explosives are stable. They weren't using nitroglycerin. Why do you speak? Let me guess, everything you know, you learned from fictional TV shows.

The bomb would have only went off when the timer hit zero and sent a charge through the blasting cap. Which would have still happened, but that's irrelevant in response to your incorrect assumption.

reply

If they had thrown it out the window, and it exploded without causing any damage, the Hindenburg would have just continued on to Nazi Germany, and then our time travelers would have been in a pickle. Of course, that would have opened up more awesome plot ideas, but you can't ask the writers to be that creative.

But I was rolling my eyes so hard when they went to the "diffuse the bomb before the timer reaches 0" plot device when there's a window 2 feet away.
