Showing them that modern bomb would not have resulted in any favorable results. They would not have believed it to be a bomb so what would the point of showing it to them be exactly? They probably would have meddled with it to the point of detonation.
It's fine to discuss what if this or what if that. But if you can't come up with something better than what the writers themselves did then why bother?
Seriously? If you're going to attempt to feign intellect, you should spend a little time researching first. Clearly you're nowhere near as intelligent as you'd like to be, or believe yourself to be. Wires, plastic explosives, and digital clocks all existed since at least the 1800s. Bombs have been around longer. Even time bombs. So, someone seeing something shoved in their face, made of components they'd recognize, and being told it's a bomb, would lead them to believe it was a bomb. Anyone smarter than
you (it seems) would comprehend, and that would probably encompass the entire population across time and space.
They're not going to be in a position to take it apart and disect it piece by piece. And even if they did see a clock that looked more
futuristic, compared to any previous digital clock they've seen, they'd know it was a clock (clearly you wouldn't). Just like they'd still understand the device to be a bomb. A quick view of something would not give them the know-how to then build it later and alter time.
So, if you can't reply with something intelligent, why bother? Are you one of the writers? Probably not. You can't even reach their low bar.
