It is not Ginny's pitching velocity that's the problem..

The problem is how in the hell is she going to hit the ball coming from major league pitchers? I know that pitchers are practically guaranteed outs on most teams. But I can not conceive of her ever even coming close to actually hitting the ball just to move runners over. And on an even more dangerous tip; will she have the reflexes to get out of the way of a ball coming back at her off of a major leaguers bat at upwards of 110mph? I hope the show touches on these questions.

Since she has been in at least 1 game, we have not even step to the plate despite playing in the NL. It looks like her "at bat" time will come next episode. Another unlikelihood.

I'm guessing we'll all find that out on the third episode called "beanball" It would be interesting to see a pitch get away from her and plunk an opposing player. And then see if they throw one back and the resulting fight between dugouts.

I hate webinars. They never provide any snacks.

The hitting part, especially for a position not expected to offer much offensive production should be the easiest baseball aspect of her character to pull off realistically. I don't see how being female would hinder her reflexes or hand-eye coordination. Sacrifice bunting situations shouldn't be any harder for her than the average major league pitcher. I just don't expect that she will be depicted to hit with any power if they do show her batting.

That's only in the American League? Isn't SD a National League team? Anyway...I've seen pitchers bat, and they seem totally timid and happy with grounding out. I've read that pitchers spend so much time pitching the managers and coaches are ok with their poor hitting. Too many rules in baseball, that's why young people aren't into it.

It depends on the pitcher. Some were considered great hitters in high school or college and take pride in their hitting ability while others look like they have no interest in using a bat and don't care if they are an easy strikeout.

Priority is placed on a pitcher's throwing performance more than hitting because there are 8 other positions expected to produce most of the scoring offense. It is a plus if the pitcher can help the team score runs, but teams don't want to risk injury or fatigue to the pitcher by allowing them to focus too much of their practice time on hitting or being too aggressive when running the bases.

Even American League pitchers do take some batting practice in preparation of Interleague games held in National League ballparks where the pitcher will be required to hit.

It would have made more sense for them to pick an American League team for the show, so then they wouldn't even have to worry about the hitting issue.

reply

No, you got the leagues mixed up. AL has the designated hitter. Pitchers bat in the NL.

reply

Isn't she a reliever? most likely would be a double switch and she wouldn't have to bat...

reply

No, she is in the starting 5.
