Lol high 80s

I don't know who the guy was maybe ken rosenthal in the show but he said her pitching in the high 80s was low standard as if that is horrible. If a woman could consistently and accurately throw high 80s they'd definitely be in the majors. Some big league pitchers now can't even throw in the high 80s

Jered Weaver's fastball now tops out at around 83. I read that he might just give up and retire after this season, not surprisingly.

reply

Do you want to be pitching fastballs the entire game? Wouldn't your arm give out?

reply

No, they throw other pitches. They cannot throw fastballs all game long.

reply

Technically speaking, no. You arm speed shouldn't change much (if at all) on different pitch types. The only things that should change from pitch to pitch are the arm angle, twisting your arm/wrist (to create a curve ball, slider, etc), and the amount of surface area you hand has on the ball (more hand surface area on the ball slows the pitch down and gives you change-ups, palm balls, etc).

reply

Pitchers don't throw fastballs every time or else the players at bat would learn this and hit a home run off them 30% of the time and a base hit the other 70%.

The show was written with the understanding that your average person has limited knowledge over the finer points of baseball. People know that there are pitchers out there that can touch 100 mph. So of course when they hear 80, they don't think much of it. Again, they are just playing to the audiences limited knowledge of the finer points of the sport.

I hate webinars. They never provide any snacks.

Actual big leaguers on PEDS are missing the boat; they should be using what she's on. 

I suspect nanites.

That will happen eventually.

As for now, one can only imagine what kinds of genetic modifications high performance athletes are undergoing.

High 80s is a bit of a stretch for the character. Low or mid 80s would be more realistic. Of cou she most viewers who watch this don't know sports of baseball. But that's okay because the show is more than just about one thing
