Alll Star Game... *spoilers*

I think it's a little crazy that everyone is so surprised she made the All Stars. It's popularity contest and, being new and the first woman in professional baseball, you know the ballots would be stacked in her favor -- especially since she is supposed to be an impressive pitcher, right?

However, I did like that she did not have the best outing.
Hey, we've seen that happen to regular male baseball players during the All Stars and plyoffs.

An even more important point - it is a TV show, it is all fiction. I can't see why a few get upset at the premise, I say just go with it and see what happens. It is supposed to be entertainment, if someone isn't entertained then they should just quit watching it.

No reason for people to get their panties in a bunch. So, a female pitcher goes to the allstar game, so what?

Granted, this is a TV show ... but if we jump into "real-life" for a second ... Fans do not vote in pitchers, that is selected by the AS Manager. So ... if that actually happened, my bet is MLB "forced" the manager to select her for a PR move. Considering she has only what 2 or 3 games under her belt (and with not great results) I wouldn't say she "earned" a spot on the AS roster. If we were talking about a male pitcher with the same stats, NO WAY would they be considered an AS!

Apparently she was 'appointed' to the team.

In the episode there was a meeting in a board room of MLB. The meeting comes to the conclusion that she is so popular (not for her baseball skills) that it would be a win-win for baseball to add her to the team.

So the board director agrees and says 'Let's take it to the Commissioner' that's how she got to the game.

Even she said she hadn't 'earned' the spot. She said that the CF Flip should represent the Padres.

If that's true...no pitcher "earns" their spot then.

reply

Not so.

Pitchers are selected either by merit. or to satisfy the rule that each team must have at least one player representing the team. When Padre C Mike Lawson had to bow out due to his injured shoulder. MLB decided to appoint her to the National League team.

In many cases, in real baseball, a pitcher may be selected to satisfy the rule of representation - even if his pitching stats are not up to true all-star caliber.

In fact, many qualified players (pitchers or position player) are left off the team for this exact reason

Of course mlb would pick her for ratings, do people not get how real life works?

That's kind of the thing with this show though. It's part SJW fantasy, part MLB propaganda.
