Before you get on this board and say this show is unrealistic. Ever heard of Lizzie Murphy? She played in several games in both the National and American league. Oh and she played in a Negro League game where she hit off the great Satchel Paige.
Missed Jackie Mitchell? So did Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig whom she struck out during an exhibition game. She scared/infuriated baseball commissioner Mountain Landis so much he voided her contract with the AA Lookouts despite being the team's starting pitcher.
And maybe just maybe this show is inspired by little league pitcher Mo'Ne Davis. Yeah you remember her don't you? She won the little league world series. First African American girl to play in a game. First girl to win with a shutout. First black female pitcher featured on Sports Illustrated. Her top recorded speed is 71mph at age 13.
You can rest easy tho' she wants to play basketball instead.
Thats what I have been telling some losers on this board
No, what you said was:
Learn your baseball history, a number of women have played in the major leagues
I don't think you understand what the major leagues are. I just looked up Lizzie Murphy because, no, I hadn't heard of her. Turns out all of her "experience" in the American and National leagues (those are majors) were exhibition games.
As far as Mitchell goes, the OP already said it

Note: "exhibition" and "AA"(that's minor league.
Neither of these women were ever members of any major league team.
Now, with that out of the way, let me say this- After the first episode, I actually like the show. I just wanted to get that straight.

Did you ever think that the reason Jackie Mitchell nor Lizzie Murphy didn't advance to the majors was because of bigoted white men? They were in the same basket as Negro league players who were exponentially better than most of the white players. So much so Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig loved to barn storm against them because they considered black players true competition.

Maybe, maybe not. We can never know for sure. I was simply challenging ShootingStar's assertion (which started in another thread and continued here) that "A number of women have played in the major leagues." He/she was trying to use your post as evidence to back up his/her statement and I was pointing out the facts.

Regarding Jackie Mitchell, there is very little evidence of her supposed feat and many regard it as a fabrication (particularly the bit about Landis banning women). Ruth and Gehrig may have just played along with an owner who was well known for outlandish stunts (he once traded a under-performing player for a turkey then promptly served the turkey for dinner).
Murphy and Mitchell were both publicity stunts in an era when baseball was more carnival than serious sport. The fact that no one can find a single shred of a statistical record for either of their careers should make that obvious. Baseball historians have found and compiled stats for all manner of games since the late 19th century, but there is nothing in the statistical record about either of those women, or ANY woman since.
71 mph is not at 60 ft 6 inches. In youth leagues there's a lot of kids throwing in the 80s and 90s on the small field. She'll be lucky to keep that speed up at regulation length.
Let Davis throw from a mound at any high school, college, or pro ball park and she won't throw 93 or even 71. You can keep dreaming that a female could play at any pro level and that's just unrealistic. It would have been more realistic if she had a knuckleball.
I come from a sports family. I played collegiate tennis and coached high school. Played fastpitch. Started keeping my father's player's log when he was a varsity girls basketball coach from the age of eleven. Father played for Jets, cousin currently plays for the Falcons. Another cousin-in-law played for the Blue Jays, retired two years àgo. So you go suck on that crackpipe.
Whatever--keep hating because a woman could possibly throw as well as a guy---boy, this show has so many men upset, it's funny as hell. And the show is actually good on top of that, but apparently, most men here would rather slam on the idea of a women being a pitcher in the major leagues.
And you saying it makes it true? Not one person has refuted that Jackie Mitchell played AA ball. Ha. Ya'll men are idiots. I just because I don't have physical balls doesn't mean I know sports.
Well, you can take some comfort in the fact that females are better at slinging insults, name-calling and engaging in childish repartee, as evidenced by posts on the IMDB website.
