Are there really no actors who've ever thrown before?

I actually like the show, it's paced well and acted well considering how glossy and cheesy it can be...but the baseball action is painful to watch. I am a high school baseball coach and I just can't imagine people being this bad at throwing. It just looks terrible. They're athletic looking dudes, are you telling me not one of them played Little League? Is Charlie Sheen the only actor who can look natural throwing a ball? After all, even Tim Robbins was terrible as Nuke Laloosh.

Agreed, Ginny is especially bad.

I still think the show is horrible all around. We just removed it from DVR programming.

I should be critical,of the techniques as well but this show is more about the drama than the games so that non sports watchers can enjoy.

TV or Movie sports rarely look like the real thing, imo. And while actors may get crash course training, it's likely not the same as athletes who've been doing it fo half their lives, whether they make it to the pros or are still in the minor league/amateur ranks.

I can still remember seeing the Rocky movies as a kid, then watching real boxing, and thinking WTF is this?!

reply

Well, they can't really throw it because there is an entire film crew with lights and equipment standing in front of them.
It's like complaining about a martial art movie because they don't kick each other for real.

OP -- agree. I have always found it startling how few actors know how to throw a ball with a natural-looking overhand arm motion. It's not really that hard with a little practice and coaching.

I've seen little leaguers do better.

Freddie Prinze Jr looked terrible on the mound in Summer Catch as well.

That movie was SO BAD. I saw that on a first date with a girl and it was so hard to sit through. She loved it of course...

To me, it's just weird that any man or boy of any age can't throw a ball with a natural looking motion. I don't know how NOT to.

reply

Throw it with your off-hand. THAT is now NOT to...

Kylie Bunbury was taught how to throw by Kevin Gregg. Remember him? there were actually 2 players by that name - on catcher and one relief pitcher. I assume it's the relief pitcher that they hired to teach her to pitch. I think he's done a fine tutoring job. But on Ginny's one pitch save, after Mike fielded the ball I was kind of surprised that she didn't start running towards first to back things up if Levon threw the ball away.
