What are her pitches and more importantly what speed does she throw her fastball? Shows been getting great reviews just haven't got around to checking it out and was wondering more about the metrics
She is exceptional for a woman but her fastball tops out at around 85mph. So she relies on a screwball and, presumably, a change-up. That can work because you keep the batter constantly guessing. If a batter is expecting a screwball and gets an 85mph fastball instead he will miss it. It is all fiction but plausible enough that it can work if one likes the concept.
I liked that they dedicated a scene to illustrate that she can't throw hard enough to be successful...so instead, she focused on learning the screwball.
Look, it is fiction, she isn't really throwing anything. The script said screwball so it is screwball, no matter what any TV fan may say. Just go with it!!
The grip Ginny's dad showed her is for a pitch known as the "circle changeup." It can have movement similar to a screwball in that the ball will move toward a right-handed hitter if thrown by a right-handed pitcher. The reason a lot of baseball fans have pointed out the difference is that "screwball" isn't an alternate term for a circle changeup. They are different pitches used for different purposes.
Screwballs are not very common among Major League pitchers, which is why the writer's probably chose that pitch as Ginny's secret weapon, but it probably would have benefitted the show's baseball credibility if they'd have actually demonstrated throwing a screwball instead of a circle change.
At least they kind of make it somewhat realistic in that she relies on technique more then being able to do the same physical things as men. Her being able to throw 95 from the bodyframe of the actress could never happen.
What are her pitches and more importantly what speed does she throw her fastball?
Sorry to disagree with you but a fastball is not the "most important" part of pitching. It's just the circus part that's been used to sell jerseys and make big stars out of some pitchers who can't throw with finesse
