At the TCA, bossman said they'll make a decision about it in May...he says he supports it, and wants it to return. He also said there has never been any discussion about an MLB Network replay, but he's looking into it...
His answer is a total crock. There's no reason whatsoever to wait until May to announce what their intentions are because they know right now exactly what they're going to do.One of the reasons they wanted Pitch in the first place was to cross-promote their Saturday baseball broadcasts. They've got way too much involved in cross-promotion not to bring Pitch back. They got Major League Baseball to sign off on the show so real uniforms, stadiums and announcers can be used. They've used the Major League Baseball Network, ESPN (when the nude selfies problem was solved), their own 100% horrible and totally useless sports network and have made the San Diego Padres a team of interest. There hasn't been any interest in them since Steve Garvey played for them. But now Ginny Baker, Mike Lawson and Blip Sanders the mythical players have created an interest in the real team. And there's also the great music of Black Violin. Not to mention the bobble heads that Amelia was less than pleased with, jerseys, posters and baseball cards that could also be manufactured as other cross promotions. Also, Pitch has created an audience for the two gentlemen that make up Black Violin as well. With all of this at stake, why would Pitch not be brought back and why would it take them until May to make a decision? And if it isn't, it could head straight to the Major League Baseball Network. They show baseball related movies every Thursday. Pitch would a perfect 8:00 PM fit.
Your logic is flawed at best. Many shows have tie ins and guess what? Didn't save them. If the ratings are bad, people don't advertise and if people don't advertise they lose money. Unless ESPN and the MLB is financing the show, their tie ins don't matter.
My logic is spot on. No other series in the history of television has ever been tied in to Major League Baseball or been used to promote different television networks during the series. Pitch promotes or has promoted Fox, Fox Sports (which is pathetic), the Major League Baseball Network, ESPN, their own channel and even ABC when Ginny was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel in episode 2. That's 4 other networks besides Fox's 2. You can't name another series in the history of television that's g every time Ginny's in used that many different television networks as a source of cross promotion in 10 episodes. Another bit of cross promotion I left was Nike. They get free advertising every time Ginny's in uniform and then have to be in on the cross promotion too. Otherwise Ginny would've signed to endorse some other company's shoes, because they wouldn't have allowed to use Nike's name. Then there's all the other cross promotion tied into Pitch that I mentioned in the previous post.
Name another series with either that much cross promotion involved. It can't be done because Pitch is the only one. And the biggest cross promoter is actually Fox itself, because the show was designed to promote it's Saturday baseball games. Which it really hasn't even done yet. Fox knows right now exactly what they're going to do. That's why his statement about waiting until May to decide is a 100% crock.
There's only 12 episodes of Bones before the series wraps up it's run. That would put the end of the series near the end of March. They already know exactly how they're going to fill that gaping 1 hour hole in their schedule. And it should be with reruns of the first 10 episodes of Pitch, while they're filming new ones. But we're talking about television executives, who don't have any common sense in the first place.
