Why do the millennials act like they're 14?

I get they're trying to emphasize everything for jokes, but these millennials don't seem to know anything. They all act like they're 14 year olds who come from small villages where all they do is stay home and go on instagram all day. Not even normal 14 year olds. It's just not funny.

That's my problem with this type of show. Most millennials aren't that young but are always portrayed as having grown up with the tech we have today (smart phones, social media, streaming). That's iGen. Millennials are old like everyone else.

Right? Their boss is actually a millennial, and she's not 20. Technically anyone born between 1984/1985 to 2000 is a millennial.

But even if these kids are supposed to be 20-25, they have zero excuse for being so damn stupid.

I know Gen Xers like to think millennials are lazy whiners, fine, but they're not stupid. They have the entire world at their fingertips. Of course they know what a cassette is, what an answering machine is...

That one girl who works there, it's like half her brain is missing or something. It's embarrassing.

I knew a woman at my old job, younger than me (probably born in the late 90s) who had no idea what a VCR was. Some people, no matter when they're born, can be so self absorbed that they don't bother learning about old technology or history in general.

CD started to mass release in 1982 and gained popularity quickly afterwards. So have millennials actually ever seen a cassette?

Answering machines are still available as of today but usually built in as part of phone set, that bulky thing looked strange even to me.

I was born in 1989 and I had a kiddie cassette player when I was little. Also before my family got a new van in 1998, all the vehicles my parents had only had cassette players. Also I have a friend who was born in 1988 who swears that he never saw a CD until he was in kindergarten.

Yes, cars take more than 10 years to phase out, that makes a lot of sense.

Ironically, the Gen Xers were criticized as being lazy whiners when they were young.

That character's not a commentary on Millenials. The "stupid but pretty girl" is a well-worn trope. Think Kelly Bundy & Chrissy Snow. Or this:

The character was even originally written a blonde. I'm not a rah-rah diversity guy. But it's refreshing that they cast an Asian actress in that role. Growing up, I knew dozens of girls like that & they came in all complexions. Not that they were actually stupid, more that they feigned stupidity as a way of being flirtatious.

I think I otherwise agree with you. Most Millenials are well into adulthood. Today's teenagers are a full generation younger than Millenials.

That's always been a pet peeve of mine. Smart phones, tablets, social media etc. weren't around or uncommon until my late teens. I would never in a million years say that I grew up the iPad (or what have you). My mom is always saying that my generation was "born with a cell phone in their hand". I was born in 1989 and I never knew anybody my age with one until middle school, and they weren't common amongst my peers until high school. Heck, I didn't have one until I was 17. She's thinking of the current generation of children, not people who are closer to 30 than they are to 20.

Most are in their early 20s. That is young. They are very tech driven. They didn't grow up without the Internet among other things, unlike those of us that are Gen X. At my 2nd job, I worked with many between 20-23 and they were cool. The work ethic was different though. They always had to take off for the latest party. I didn't take a day off until I had to have a surgical procedure. Oh well.

It has nothing to do with their age, it has everything to do with pi$$-poor writing.

Because some of them really are stupid? You really need to go work in a high school for a few days.

When my oldest daughter took a geography class as an elective in high school (because apparently no one requires it anymore) the teacher gave them a map of the United States the first day because he wanted to see how much they knew. He asked them to name as many states as they could. Daughter felt bad because she named 40 until she found out eight kids in the class named less than ten. And don't get me started on history, grammar or spelling. I tell at least five high school kids a week that even if they spell check something, they still need to read it.

It's just how the 50 year old writers see millennials. Obviously they're clueless.

As I grow older, I pay less attention to what people post, I just watch their avatars.

A millennial is someone who became an adult in the 21st century, so anyone born in 1982 or later.
