Why must there be a British person on every show?

We get it... Americans are only aware of... Canadians to the north, Mexicans to the south, British aka English somewhere to the east, Muslims... somewhere over there...

it's such a cliche.

What other shows have British people on them?
Stephen Fry is not just "a British Person," he's a comedy mastermind who is criminally underused on this show.

One: chase is Australian in house. At least learn the difference.

B: more than half the shows you listed are British actors playing American. In the great indoors Stephen fry is British playing a Brit. There's a difference. And most people don't even notice because brits are far better at doing an 'american' accent than Americans doing a British accent. Maybe when you lot master English you'll be able to do a good British accent.

"chase is Australian in house. At least learn the difference."

Uh....I'm pretty sure they were referring to Hugh Laurie, a Brit, playing Dr House, an American.

reply

Umm i am pretty sure he wasnt because if you had read his post he says 'house/chance' ...
showing that he didnt even realise that hugh laurie is english
amusing

reply

Um, Chance is actually another show starring Hugh Laurie.....

What I find amazing is the amount of Americans in all of those shows.

I assumed the OP meant British characters, not British people playing American characters.

Of course if you also meant the same thing fair play (I was just a bit thrown by your mention of Band of Brothers because one would expect that to have it's share of British characters), I can't say I've seen much of many the shows you listed.

It's just made a bit confusing because I'm not sure everyone here is on the same page in that respect.

...then whoa, differences...

Lots of US shows get exported over to UK. I think they stick British people in shows so they're more universal and accepted.

reply

Lots of US shows come to Australia too, but I don't need or want Australian characters in them to make them relatable. lol Maybe because (in the past at least) Australian characters in US shows have been borderline embarrassing cliches. And nothing against my own accent but I find it grating when it feels like it's being forced in amongst US accents.

If I'd thought Australian characters had been inserted for my benefit I'd feel quite patronised.

...then whoa, differences...

reply

Because it's Stephen Fry, and he's great in everything.

I think Brits with money are fleeing the UK, so actors and actresses are moving to the US so because London is now another islamic hellhole of a city. The UK is like NYC where no one seems to enjoy being there yet most can't escape.

reply

This is 100% right and not just London that is being corrupted. Cities, towns and even villages nationwide are rapidly being overrun by all kinds of wrong 'uns.

Take it from one of the ones that like you mention; wants to get out but just can't escape. You are absolutely spot on.
