Can't watch because of the wife.

Wife tells her husband, he can't go out and play football with the guys, because he has to stay home, and wait for a delivery, no wait, she orders him to, stay home, without asking him if he would please stay home and wait. Another TV, shrewish wife cut from the same cloth as 'Jill Taylor, 'Deborah Barone', and 'Carrie Heffernan', James', TV wife from "King of Queens". The condescending, let's talk about this, before you make a decision, without asking me, first, because I will say no, and your opinion doesn't count, but I treat the kids with more respect than the husband. I switched it off, it's too much like his other show, and all other shows with married people and their families.

This one is nicer than Carrie.

reply

Remember Carrie was nice in the beginning too.

reply

They gave her a kinder, more bubbly personality than Carrie. But I totally agree with the OP on her conduct and attitude. I don't have a problem with it myself. I've known a few households in my time on Earth here, and a lot of them had power dynamics between the husband and wife just as portrayed in these sitcoms. So I don't think it's out of place. Though I can certainly see how that wouldn't be appreciated by some. You'll notice as well the creepy way they showed the mother taking the daughter under her wing and teaching her to push around her fiance in the same manner.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

Cut her some slack. She is married to an immature self centered idiot. If anything , she us constantly being his mother and putting up with him. Also what the hell is a 54 year old fat guy doing playing football??? Or anybody over 50 for that matter?

reply

Yeah! There are laws! 50+ guys can't do just anything! They need to abide by the law and only perform activities decreed to be acceptable by qormi! How dare someone do something quormi doesn't deem "age appropriate"! Just who does he think he is, having fun?!!!

You are what's wrong with society, pal.

reply

Keep your pants on, pal. The fact is, guys over fifty ging to the park to play football is about as common as tuna on a pizza.

reply

I kept waiting for one of them to have a heart attack-ack-ack-ack-ack during that ball game.

reply

These husbands, fathers need to man up, which makes me ask, what does an attractive, intelligent cultured woman see in these over grown boys? In reality, no woman like that would give someone like that the time of day.

reply

That's kinda how real-life marriage is though, isn't it? Come on. I love women but god damn they're bossy and like to take control if you allow yourself to be pushed around. I have seen it in probably 80% or more of relationships, either my own or someone else's. Generally speaking they have no qualms trying to "tell" you what to do if they disagree. Just the way it is for most women. Poor guys. LOL

reply

The problem is that she seems more like his mom than his wife. At least in these other shows, the two had something in common, I don't know why these two are married?

reply

It's not her bossiness that stands out to me so much as her fake sunshiney personality. She just doesn't seem "real." I agree with the previous poster who said these two don't belong together.

reply

It's been the same dynamic since the dawn of TV. Think of Ralph and Alice Cramden. SHE was the boss, he was a over grown child. The only show that really gave the husband real dominant power was I Love Lucy. He'd grab her across his lap and spank that ass.
Even TV commercials. The man is always portrayed as an idiot around the house.
Home Improvements
KoQ
Raymond
Malcome in the Middle
The Middle
Modern Family
All portray the husband as a manchild or dolt that has no clue what's going on.

There were a few shows along the way that showed spouses on equal footing.
Leave it to Beaver, Family Ties, Growing Pains, and That 70's show.

But for the most part we're depicted as idiots.

reply

Does she have some kind of speech impediment, or is it some peculiar accent? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to insult her, we can date if she wants to (right), but everytime she speaks sounds weird to me... I'm not an English speaker, that's why I'm asking.

The wife is much nicer and sweeter than any of those other wives. Kevin is retired and can play football any time. They had a delivery coming and they needed someone to be there for it - is it really so unreasonable that the one person in the house who does not have to go to school or work be home to accept it?

Not being able to help out around the house when you're retired because you "have" to go play football is ludicrous. Reschedule the game.
