Episode 6 showed improvement

The episode was, in my opinion, the best one so far.

Kevin James was great as usual, but really seemed to be back to his King of Queens level funny.

The wife was better than in previous episodes.

Ray Romano was great as a guest (maybe bring him back once or twice a season).

The son had the most screen time he's seen so far, and he's not bad at all.

The daughter and her boyfriend had just the right amount of screen time for their characters (who could get annoying if used too much).

Also the black friend is sort of growing on me (although he only had a line or two in the episode, he seemed to deliver them a lot better than he has in previous episodes). He'll never be Deacon, but he'll do.

I had to rewind 5 times to try to decipher what the kid on the couch said when Kevin asked him how was school, but I could never understand him.

Romano was okay here - definitely much better than his appearances on King of Queens.

The line when Romano's wife insisted that Kevin's wife must go to Barcelona was straight from KoQ when Doug's annoying ex-girlfriend insisted that Holly must go to Argentina.

Still don't like the Chale character and doubt I ever will.

I am disappointed they won't have a Halloween themed episode next Monday instead just a retread.

The son replied "I went" when asked about school. I just put on my CC when that happens. I have had to do that more often it seems lately. Bugs me when I can't make out what they said. Weird that the director doesn't catch a mumbled sentence. I guess when you know the script you don't notice it as much.

According to my TV listings, there will be a Halloween episode next Monday. Forgot to copy the title, but here's the description:

"On Halloween, Kevin and Donna pretend not to be
home to avoid giving out candy; Chale has a
problem with a man dressed as a Viking."

Now if that bastard so much as twitches, I'm gonna blow him right to Mars.

It was just confusing because the preview for next week's episode were a couple of clips from previous episodes (the wife's ugly face while sleeping and a scene in the confession booth).

Agreed!! My roomie and I saw that and thought, "WTF?" So I immediately checked the TV listings, and sure enough, it looked like it was gonna be a rerun. Checked them again a few hours later, and the listings had changed. Go figure.

Both Ray and Kevin looked tired (in both energy and looks) and couldn't even be bothered fake the steps through the run of the mill plot. Ray was more effective on The Middle in the tent episode playing a clueless unwanted.

Was that iCarly playing his trophy wife? If not... may as well have.

Romano was bog awful and took screen time away from characters with potential, such as Chale, Kendra and Goody.

The middle daughter and the tall bearded friend didn't even appear, I wonder if they are getting the Chuck Cunningham treatment?

I question why they needed to resort to gimmicky guest star roles just 6 episodes in when the regular cast still haven't got their feet wet.

Yet another exercise in James being more concerned about his showbiz 'posse'. Another exercise in the ego stroking of Romano at the cost of a well written episode.
