Is there a reason for the title "Kevin Can Wait" or was it the result of some poorly thrown darts?

I agree.

"Kevin Can Wait" is clearly a pun on the classic "Heaven Can Wait".

It's a clever pun. And I can appreciate the word play.

As far as the sitcom and its premise ...

I think the title means: Kevin has been waiting for retirement so that he can enjoy "the good life". But, now that he is retired, a lot of things are getting in the way. There are a lot of obstacles to what he had envisioned would be his nice, easy, carefree lifestyle supposedly brought on by one's retirement.

So, for now ... he just has to "suck it up" for the sake of his family and friends.

Thus, Kevin can wait ...

His time will (eventually) come ...
