Kinda hard to accept Kevin James as this new character

Its kinda hard to accept him as this new character when he looks and acts exactly the same as Doug from KoQ but he has a new wife, he has kids and a new set of friends. Its just weird, it looks like Doug left Carrie and got a new family and a new set of friends.

Thats what i love about these high school girls, i get older they stay the same age.

Yes that's exactly how it feels. It's just odd.

When I watched the preview for the first time it was definitely weird seeing him work with a new cast. Especially since I've watched every episode of the KOQ multiple times. But I think with time I'll get used to seeing him with this new team.

Its just where he's exactly the same as Doug, if he looked a little different, maybe had a beard or had a different personality it would be easier to take. But all i can think of is Doug left Carrie and moved somewhere else and married a new woman and got new friends.

It would be like if Carol O'Connor was cast as a new character in another show but acted and dressed the same as Archie Bunker but had a new wife and a new daughter and a son and lived in Florida. It would just be really odd and weird.

It wouldn't be so hard to accept if it was funny.

It's awful and that annoying laugh track that plays every time someone speaks makes it worse.

What is James supposed to do though? He had a great run in a show that lasted 9 years.

So what, that now means he can't be accepted as any other character? Should he not be allowed to have a crack at another successful sitcom?

Of course Doug Heffernan looks like Kevin Gable. I suppose James could have gained more weight or lost weight to change his appearance, maybe lose the alleged hairpieces he wears or grown a beard.

Countless actors have played different roles, it shouldn't really be difficult to distinguish an actor from his characters.

I suppose it is inevitable though that comparisons will made between the two shows. It doesn't help that he has allowed nepotism to play a part here by allowing Valentine a role he doesn't deserve on merit. Valentine has no shame accepting these handouts and James is a fool for allowing him to ride on his success. Adding Valentine and the supposed guest appearance of Ray Romano is only going to lend itself to more people making direct comparisons between this show and KOQ.

You would think James would allow the show to establish itself before adding gimmicks like this.

I felt almost like I was watching a remake of KofQ:

He has the same makeup of friends with 2 being goofy White guys and 1 a sidekick Black guy. Then enter his brother who is like Arthur, a member of the family who annoys his character.

The wife reminds me of early KofQ seasons with Carrie. Kind of caring, kind of responsible, tolerant to his scams (like the alcoholic guy who could get them beer renting the apartment), level headed wife with some dominance.

I can get past Doug/Kevin looking the same, its the same actor but it is hard to distinguish the two apart when both carry the same traits of each other: food, jokes about exercise, pulling scams (back to the free beer from the alcoholic), and hanging out with the new set of KofQ friends.

I really would love to get into this show and support it. I hope that it gets a footing that works without repeated KofQ roles and outcomes. I love KofQ, I miss seeing him with Carrie but over time maybe the development of the show will take a turn where things feel just as funny but different.

I too, am trying to give this show a chance. KoQ is one of my top favorite sitcoms, but it was really quite dry in the beginning also. Definitely feels like a less energetic Doug Heffernan so far. Not really a fan of the wife, possibly because I am partial to Carrie. I'll try to be fair and give it some time to hit its stride.

especially with King of Queens in reruns so much

Remember Lucille Ball playing basically the same character in multiple sitcoms? And Tony Danza? And Bob Newhart?

Same thing here. You'll get used to it.
