People, the Show is Hilarious

Watch it again, as far as I'm concerned. This comedy is more for the 40 and over audience, I think.

Kevin is hilarious with his facial expressions, and 'just to get over' attitude.
Chale (the fiancé) is consistent. I do enjoy watching him perform. At first he was annoying and seemed phony, but I "get it" - his humor.

Donna, the wife complements Kevin well. I like her "tough mom" humor. She sold me on the Beat the Parents episode with her reaction to the neighbor in the shower.

I look forward to each episode.

And I have good taste in comedy. There have not been enough good comedies in recent years.

My past favorites: (no specific order) Seinfeld (of course), Martin (oh yeah!), Golden Girls (most agree), Will and Grace, All in the Family, Jeffersons, Good Times, Maude, Sanford and Son, Growing Pains

I didn't care for: Friends (except their theme song), Cosby Show, Different World, all new comedies in last 5 years, Everyone Loves --who?,

I'm in my 20's and overall I like the show. I definitely think there is room for improvement though. I also grew up watching multi-cam sitcoms like the ones you mentioned, so I'll always kind of hold a special place in my heart for them. I can't give up on the format yet despite the setbacks we've seen over the past 10+ years.

The Hallow We Aint Home episode was a disappointment. But the other episodes were great. I take back my comment about audience age. I certainly enjoyed Golden Girls back then.
This is my first dose of Kevin James, I don't have a comparison. Never watched King of Hill.

If this show goes off the air, I guess I'll go back to watching Dateline and Turner Classic Movies for my evening entertainment.

If you are enjoying Kevin Can Wait and like multi-cam sitcom shows I definitely recommend checking out Kevin James's older series King of Queens. It's a great sitcom and a lot of fun to watch.

Well, you simply can't convince people to find something funny because you have good taste in comedy as it existed in the 20th century. Kevin James is Kevin James and always is. As far as his wife, there are virtually nothing but "tough Moms" on TV.

reply

You're right about that. My taste doesn't move television. Just like I mentioned not liking the Cosby Show at all, and it stayed on the air.

This show is nothing but a rehashed 90s sitcom mixed with elements from modern sitcoms. I'm done with the whole lovable idiot husband and the bitch wife.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Halloween episode and the one with Sandler. The show has its moments.

reply

Well, I am over 40 but I think it's good for younger people too. There's always haters and people have different tastes, but I look forward to the show every week.

It's a pretty good show but I think it tries to hard with these weird "stunt scenes" like the bubble bowl and the billy joel concert. There's always a scene or two in an ep that takes the show out of any believable realm straight into ultra fantastic tv fantasy land.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

They use montages like the bubbles and concert and go-kart races as filler and padding to extend the episode to 22 minutes. It's too bad they don't fill it with funnier jokes.

I still hold out the tiniest sliver of micro hope that it might possibly perhaps get slightly better soon. I find myself fast forwarding through some scenes now (concert, bubbles). Not sure that's a good sign.

I loved these stunts. I like physical comedy and they did it great with a frantic rhythm...

I think they turn the ordinary sitcom format and gave it a fabulous spin.

Too bad they got bad criticism for them...

OP, I am over 40 and loved KOQ, I have tried to this watch this show now a few times, and don't find it funny at all.

I really wanted to, but so many things are just not good. The wife is miscast(looks more like his daughter and has ZERO chemistry with James), something he really had with Leah.

The annoying laugh track where every word is met with outrageous laughter. Yes, I know they film in front an audience, it's still canned laughter.
